Napoli ‘are braced for renewed interest in their midfielder Fabian Ruiz’ with Barcelona and Real Madrid ‘set to enter a bidding war’ for the Spain international.
Club president Aurelio De Laurentiis is confident both LaLiga giants will compete against each other to sign the 24-year-old when the transfer window opens this summer.
Mundo Deportivo’s report doesn’t specify a precise price tag for Ruiz but it will almost certainly exceed the £27million Napoli paid to sign him from Real Betis in July 2018.
Ruiz made his breakthrough at Betis under Quique Setien, who is now in charge at Barcelona, and the manager is reportedly keen on a reunion at the Nou Camp.
Ruiz, who has made six appearances for Spain, is also attracting Real’s interest and it is believed they are prepared to commit more financially to signing him.
De Laurentiis is a big fan of Ruiz and has already presented him with a contract extension from the current 2023 expiry to 2025. But the player has yet to sign a new deal.
Ruiz had contributed three goals and two assists in his 32 outings for Napoli before the Serie A season was suspended due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
He played against Barcelona in the first leg of the Champions League last-16 in February, with the match at Stadio San Paolo ending 1-1.
