January signing Fernandes was in good form for Manchester United before the 2019/20 Premier League season was indefinitely postponed by the COVID-19 outbreak, having scored twice and provided three assists in five games.
“The one I liked to watch and follow was Iniesta, because Iniesta is a mix between a No.8 and a No.10,” Fernandes said in a Q&A session on Manchester United’s official website.
“It is something I can do better, playing between No.8 and No.10.
“I think Iniesta was one of the best in the world.
“For me, it was incredible that Iniesta finished his career without the Ballon d’Or.
“With everything he won, it is difficult for me to understand!”
Fernandes also spoke of his own attitude towards the game and his mentality when he steps out onto the pitch.
“Warrior,” Fernandes replied when asked to describe his playing style in a word.
“Because, for me, every game is a battle.
“You need to go out to the game and just understand you need to beat your opponent.
“With all of the respect, because you need to have respect for your opponent, but you need to beat them.
“If you don’t beat them, they will beat you.
It doesn’t matter who is on the other team.
“If it is a friend, because I have friends playing in the Premier League, I don’t care.
“At that moment I will be their biggest enemy.”
