Nelson Semedo has frozen talks with Barcelona over a new contract as he wants to be guaranteed regular playing time.
The right-back’s current deal runs until the summer of 2022, but he is hesitant to sign fresh terms given that Sergi Roberto is sometimes selected ahead of him.
Semedo has been linked with a move away from the Nou Camp, and would be a tempting option for Premier League clubs if he was to become available, as reported by Sport.
Barcelona are eager to extend Semedo’s contract until 2024, but are having difficulties in getting him to agree to fresh terms.
This season Semedo has made 29 appearances for Barcelona, and he has played for the club on 111 occasions in total since joining from Benfica in 2017.
Semedo’s agent Jorge Mendes suggested that the defender should be used in a swap deal for another of his clients, Manchester City’s Joao Cancelo.
The pair are both Portugal internationals who play at right-back and both haven’t played as regularly as they would have liked.
